Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a public sector enterprise operating under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of the Government of India . This company was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 in September 1987, a public sector company Which was designed under the Nuclear Energy Act, 1962, the plans and programs of the Government of India To comply with the electricity generation, had to carry out nuclear power in operation and nuclear power plants projects. NPCIL is also a co-participant in the Bhavni, another public sector enterprise of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), which is implementing the Quick Breeder Reactor Program in the country.
NPCIL is responsible for the design, manufacture, commissioning and operation of nuclear power reactors. NPCIL is a compromise-signatory, beneficiary and dividend payer, whose credit rating is the highest (AAA) level by CRISL and CERE. NPCIL is currently operating 22 commercial nuclear power reactors with total capacity of 6780 MW. In this fleet of reactors, there are two boiling water reactors (BWR) and 18 pressed heavy water reactors (PHWR), out of which 100 MW of heavy power reactor is under the ownership of the Atomic Energy Department, Government of India and two 1000 MW VVER The reactor unit is KNPP-1 and 2, in this fleet recently, The unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, which is a VVER (compressed water reactor) type of 1000 MW power, has joined, which has started its commercial operation since March 31, 2017. At present, eight reactors of NPCIL are in different stages of construction and have total power capacity of 6200 MW.
Pre-project activities have been started at the new sites 'in principle' approved by the government so that the projects can be started at these places in a hurry.
